Burn Your Boats
This saying comes from military commanders giving their men the extreme orders to quite literally burn their own boats after arriving on enemy soil.
This marked a point of no return with only 2 outcomes now available – conquer or die trying.
You don’t need to think in such binary terms but it’s a powerful mentality to nurture when you’re trying to lose fat and get lean for life.
This might sound needless and too far.
But it’s way better taking your efforts a bit too seriously than setting yourself up by failure by being half hearted, with one foot in and one foot out.
If you believe there’s no going back and consistently make choices that support that belief, then, all being well, you won’t.
How does this look in practice?
One of the simplest ways of applying this principle is to take your old clothes that don’t fit you any more to the charity shop.
Why keep them?
You won’t be needing them again, will you?
I’ve had to “apologise” to people for the expense of having to buy a whole new wardrobe when they’ve made a life changing body transformation.
It’s a great feeling.
In some walks of life, having an exit or back up strategy is sensible – what if it doesn’t work out?
But when you don’t ever want to go back to a place which didn’t serve you.
And when the place you’re going leads to greater health, fitness and the empowerment to do whatever you want in life.
Go all in and burn your boats.
