Today we discussed:
Practising Poverty
From time to time, how powerful it can be to practise poverty when it comes to nutrition and how it is a privilege to be able to do so, knowing when and where our next meal is coming from.
This helps to observe, control and master our appetite.
Loosening our dependency on food.
Building our resilience to get through tough times.
Appetite during COVID-19 Lockdown
A few members have noticed differences in their appetite during lockdown – namely not being as hungry generally or at certain times.
We discussed the potential causes of this – being more sedentary, basal metabolic rate potentially lowering and our reaction to stress along with a change in daily/weekly routines.
Motive for eating
Which was interesting because conversely, several members also reported increased snacking.
Particularly on sweet treats.
So what were the motives, if they weren’t feeling as hungry?
Boredom – it’s something to do
Access – if it’s there, their going to get eaten
Comfort – Treats replacing other ways of getting comfort right now.
