In this short video, I discuss the importance of understanding the relationship between your time IN and OUT of the gym…
Hi folks
When you’re trying to lose weight and change your body shape,
most people understand that a physical stimulus through some kind of training is
going to be a necessary part of the process.
There’s an expectation that
you’ll be required to put in some effort in the gym.
And If you can keep regular appointments ensuring you get to the gym
and train consistently
And you know what you’re doing when you’re in there.
You can get into a very good routine with your training
quite quickly
After a little while, most people actually look forward to their sessions in the gym.
Because it’s the most obvious, big action,
you’re taking… to help lead you towards where you want to be.
But depending on the relationship between how often you go,
how much you do when you’re there
and how hard you work,
you’re not going to be spending more than 2-4 hours each week
in your gym environment.
That means that
whilst of course you want to get the very most out of your time there
by focusing mindfully on each and every rep…
you must consider the fact that
the vast majority of your time is spent
OUTSIDE of your gym environment.
And how you spend THIS time will have as big an impact
if not bigger than your training…
on your ability to achieve the results you want
So it’s crucial to put the same kind of effort into your approach
outside of the gym
to get you to where you want to be.
Understanding that your training is delivering a stimulus to your body
and your time between sessions is actually when your body responds positively
to this stimulus
if it has time to recover and adequate resources from your nutrition.
So approaching your time outside of the gym,
the same way you do your training –
With a lot of awareness, effort and consistency is key.
Unlike the gym though
It’s as much about what you DON’T do
as it is about what you are DOING.
Let me explain…
Whilst it is possible to overdo it in the gym –
most people aren’t doing enough, regularly enough
for that to be a major issue.
Outside of the gym on the other hand,
It’s all too easy to overdo it especially on the food front
With access to lots of energy rich foods.
So the ability to say no, show patience and resolve is challenging
Because it’s much more intangible than banking a good workout at the gym.
The way to overcome this, is to treat each meal you eat
like a set you complete in the gym….
Each one is an opportunity to take you
another step towards your goals.
That’s why I designed my visual meal diary tool on my online Academy –
it allows you to journal your meals the same way you journal your workouts at the gym.
By uploading pictures of your meals, it lets me give you feedback and encouragement to ensure you’re on track
IN and OUT of the gym.
Whether you want to work with me in person, online or simply have a chat to point you in the right direction, let’s see how we can work together.
