Today, we discussed:
Whether you think the glass is half full or half-empty?
In other words, are you predominantly optimistic or pessimistic?
Eternal optimists, whilst positive to be around, can benefit from being grounded in reality – avoiding getting burned by negative life events – if blind to the fact they will happen to us all.
Pessimists, on the other hand, can benefit from gentle reminders to dream a little – that good things do happen.
And that events and emotions of all sorts do pass.
If pessimism lives in the micro picture and looking at things through the narrow lense of here and now.
Optimism lives in the macro picture and looking at things through the wider lense of the future and taking the long view on life.
Gameface
Having to be optimistic professionally – when people rely on you and expect a boost from you – even if you’re not feeling that way yourself at the time.
It takes courage to be optimistic at times, especially when we’re all going through a tough time (COVID-19 Lockdown) at the moment.
It opens us up to things not going as we intended or desired which can lead us to get hurt.
So pessimism can be a form of perverse protection from taking risks and living life fully.
Some Members shared they can be optimistic and uplifting on a personal level for their friends – but not always for themselves.
So how about talking to yourself like a friend?
